Today I’m going to be talking about insecurities and how to overcome them as millennials.
I know, my last post was on something ‘motivational’ , I guess I’m on a roll here 💁🏽
TED TALK, HERE I COME ?
Living in the millennial era, it’s all about social media and especially the different perspectives on what ‘perfect’ should look like. There is a big pressure to be “perfect”, despite obvious flaws.
Insecurities are a part of us and whether we want to show it or not, we all have them.We want to show that we are doing good at all times and are afraid to show emotions (this is me for sure ) because it is perceived as a sign of weakness.
Here’s how to deal with insecurities as a millennial :
#ACCEPT WHO YOU ARE AS A PERSON
Acceptance is the first step towards recovery. I know, it sounds like you’re in an “AA” session but it’s true.
When I started accepting the things I couldn’t change about myself, I started living an easier life. Your nose is too big, so what? You’re not at an optimal height, sooooooo????? You’ve got a big scar? Wear it proudly as the hero that you are, you survived something that resulted to that scar.
Once you accept your insecurities, trust me, no one can use them against you.
#COMPARISON IS THE THIEF OF JOY
Yes my loves, do not compare yourself with anyone. Everyone is on their own path and on different wavelengths in life. You can’t expect what is working for someone else to work for you. I learnt this the hard way last year when I kept comparing myself with my mates who graduated high school with me. I had to come to terms with the fact that even if we all finished high school together, it is not a guarantee that we will all finish the next part of our lives at the same pace. That was just high school, it was a structured system, that’s why we could all finish together. Catch my drift?
#NO PRESSURE
After acceptance comes change, that’s where no pressure comes in. Work on the parts you can change but don’t add pressure on yourself, increased pressure only makes it harder to achieve a healthier result. Do not rush the process of change, do it at your own pace.
#BE YOURSELF, FORGET THE REST
Finally loves, the best version of yourself is YOU. Be you, and forget the rest. Remember, everyone will always have a different perception of you. So the best thing to do is be yourself and you’ll see that those who love you genuinely, will love you regardless of anything you have going on with you.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?” – Marianne Williamson
How do you overcome insecurity?
Love & Light,
Nice read, everyone’s race is actually very different. But I think comparison is a double edged sword, it can be just as constructive as destructive, you need to establish the points of limitation between healthy comparison and jealousy.
