My Summer Manifesto : Finding Joy In Doing Much Less – The Ash Tree Journal

As I planned my summer holiday, I planned it with the intention of slowing down and doing much much less.

I’m approaching my goals differently, and looking for what can stay UNDONE. This is very new for me though, as I am someone who likes to jam-pack my schedule and to-do list to the max ( and still probably not get sh*t done.)

This summer, I’m taking more notes from the people I look up to and taking a break from the insanity of constantly trying to produce something from a “dry place”.

This summer, I’m taking more notes from the people I look up to and taking a break from the insanity of constantly trying to produce something from a “dry place”.

And I never felt better.

I’m very eager to live in the moment more, and soak up all the experiences I hopefully get, on my travels, interaction with people.

I’m really looking forward to this little experiment and see what i learn from it. I hope that I learn a lot more than expected.

How exactly am I doing less?

More experience filled activities with people I love and cherish : I realized the strength in unity and importance of family. I am grateful that I have the opportunity to spend some time with some family, since I haven’t had that in about 5 years. I am doing all I can, to spend as much time as I can with the people I love, and fill my life with amazing memories.

I’m eager to soak up just a tiny bit of this authenticity and be present for all the small moments ahead. I’m already one week into this summer manifesto and I can say I am already feeling so much more relaxed and centered.

Blocking time to complete my Must-Dos : Most times, as we can all relate, I let procrastination win. This is still an ongoing struggle, but I have allowed myself to work harder at beating this laziness. For my to-do list, I’m cutting everything down to only 3 main tasks per day, leaving the rest for much later, or the rest of the week.

I hope this simple approach helps somehow to take charge of my time and spend it wisely and intentionally. I hope it helps me to connect to the present moment, finding joy in the little and imperfect things and also finding a great purpose in just existing.

  1. I love the idea of slowing down and taking things one day at a time. I have been trying to do that myself but I fail at it because while I am relaxing, I start feeling like I should be doing something and I am wasting time and that is totally wrong. Thank you for writing about this because it has made me realized that I really need to focus on taking it easy.
Nonetheless, summer has been pretty laidback for me. I am planning on going to the Bahamas soon to really relax and that’s something I am currently looking forward to đź’•

    1. I can totally relate to the fact about worrying that I have to be constantly doing something when I am resting but I love that you refocus yourself quite well too. I hope you enjoy the Bahamas and please share pictures!!
