DIY || How To Take Off Gel Polish, At Home!

Life is not perfect, but your nails can be. ♡

Today I am going to show you how to remove your gel polish at home But first, let’s have a little chat 🙂

Alright so you know I am a little obsessed with the perfect manicured nail look. It doesn’t even have to be polished, neat nails go a long way for me. When my gel nail polish becomes too old and I haven’t yet made an appointment to take it off, I become extremely sad and anxious. I begin chipping away at my nails, which makes them look worse by the way! For me, the sight of chipped polish puts me over the edge (okay not really, but it annoys me to the point that I will peel away all of my polish until my hands are left looking horrible—not a good look)

Which is why I had to figure out a way to take off my nail polish at home. Thanks to E! online, I found an easy way, and now I am going to show it to you!

What you need :

  • Acetone (found in local beauty supply stores)
  • Cotton balls
  • Aluminum foil

What to do :

  • Soak your cotton balls in acetone.
  • Wrap your cotton pad around your nails and cover with foil for about 30 minutes. I know, its long-but its worth it.
  • After a little bit over 30 minutes, take off the aluminum foil.
  • Peel off gel and file your nails.

And there you have it, the easiest DIY ever!

Pro tip :

Maximum strength acetone is a must, I bought a really cheap acetone that doesn’t even have a household name and it works perfectly. Nail polish remover is NOT acetone by the way, it contains a really small amount of acetone but its not strong enough to take off your gel nail polish.

Moisturizing your nails first is important, I applied Vaseline to my cuticles to create a barrier and not let the acetone, being as harsh as it is kill my beds.

Do you wear gel polish? If so, what’s your favorite color and brand?

Hi darlings!

Today I’m going to be talking about insecurities and how to overcome them as millennials.

I know, my last post was on something ‘motivational’ , I guess I’m on a roll here 💁🏽

Living in the millennial era, it’s all about social media and especially the different perspectives on what ‘perfect’ should look like. There is a big pressure to be “perfect”, despite obvious flaws.

Insecurities are a part of us and whether we want to show it or not, we all have them.We want to show that we are doing good at all times and are afraid to show emotions (this is me for sure ) because it is perceived as a sign of weakness.

Here’s how to deal with insecurities as a millennial :

Acceptance is the first step towards recovery. I know, it sounds like you’re in an “AA” session but it’s true.

When I started accepting the things I couldn’t change about myself, I started living an easier life. Your nose is too big, so what? You’re not at an optimal height, sooooooo????? You’ve got a big scar? Wear it proudly as the hero that you are, you survived something that resulted to that scar.

Once you accept your insecurities, trust me, no one can use them against you.

Yes my loves, do not compare yourself with anyone. Everyone is on their own path and on different wavelengths in life. You can’t expect what is working for someone else to work for you. I learnt this the hard way last year when I kept comparing myself with my mates who graduated high school with me. I had to come to terms with the fact that even if we all finished high school together, it is not a guarantee that we will all finish the next part of our lives at the same pace. That was just high school, it was a structured system, that’s why we could all finish together. Catch my drift?

After acceptance comes change, that’s where no pressure comes in. Work on the parts you can change but don’t add pressure on yourself, increased pressure only makes it harder to achieve a healthier result. Do not rush the process of change, do it at your own pace.

Finally loves, the best version of yourself is YOU. Be you, and forget the rest. Remember, everyone will always have a different perception of you. So the best thing to do is be yourself and you’ll see that those who love you genuinely, will love you regardless of anything you have going on with you.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?” – Marianne Williamson

How do you overcome insecurity?

I know, another post already? Wow!

I’m on a roll here. Let’s be happy about that.

Today, I thought I’d share this post with you all. I finally went to church after about 3 weeks and after church I had an impromptu photo session and I loved the outcome!

Here in Hungary, we’ve not had the prettiest weather. It has been so cold, dark and gloomy. You would always find me at home with no motivation to even do anything. So when the sun came out yesterday, I had to take all the advantage!

I wore a simple Orange blouse and paired it with black jeans and black boots.

I wore minimal accessories. Just a bracelet and a watch.

This orange top was an old one I always skeptical to wear because I thought it was too colorful. However, I ended up loving it when I wore it.

Side note :I really hope I pulled off this post, I’m not a fashion blogger but who knows? 😉

Domain Name change + The Ash Tree Journal, Monthly. You In?

Hi everyone!

First of all I am happy to announce that I finally got the domain name I wanted, which is “”

So I urge you kindly, to update your bookmarks and stay up to date. Because the Ash Tree Journal is here to stay!

Why the change?

To be honest, I never really liked using my name for anything. And so, when I first opened this blog I was thinking that it would be perfect because it is, well, my name – and that doesn’t change. But as I continued to write, I didn’t really feel as good writing out as much because it didn’t really feel like me.

Am I rambling already?

Moving on.

Why The Ash Tree?

I was asked this question by the lovely Amyn of in the spotlight interview she did of me. Check it out here  – I really loved reading it and I felt like she described me in such a perfect manner. Go and check it out and subscribe to her blog too! She’s awesome.

Now back to the question, why The Ash Tree?

The Ash Tree is essentially the meaning of my name, Ashley (The Ash tree meadow). I chose the Celtic meaning because I think it applies to me more in life. “The ash speaks to us of growth, expansion, and higher perspective“, we can liken our own soul-growth with that of the ash. With greater (higher) attainment, the more we need to stay grounded (well rooted).
I also like some mystery in my life and I like the fact the Ash has to do with my name but also it cannot be easily guessed that it’s Me, Ashley’s blog.

More ramblings, sorry about that.

Does this affect the content?

No my lovelies, it doesn’t affect the content one bit. Instead I plan to be more personal, write more in my own voice and be more productive in the content releases, I even want to create an editorial calendar (so help me God).

Monthly Newsletters.

It would really really make me happy if you all could subscribe to my monthly newsletter. Why? you may ask.

You will only get monthly updates on what has happened on The Ash Tree Journal. A little love note from me and maybe in the future, giveaways!

I know it is tasking and all that, clicking different links, going to your email and clicking a link to confirm that you have subscribed for something you clearly clicked the subscribe button for!

I feel ya! But it’ll only take a minute. Plus we would be friends. Don’t you want that?

Here’s the link to subscribe :

In Conclusion :

As always, it’s a big THANK YOU from me. You guys are really the best!

You can always catch me on all social media. Especially on my Instagram 🙂
